Xeroderma pigmentosum is based on a genetic defect in the DNA repair system, which is diagnosed in early childhood. Xeroderma pigmentosum is a rare disorder, which is transmitted in an autosomal recessive manner. Children with xeroderma pigmentosum display hypersensitivity to ultraviolet (UV) radiation.
