A novel human leucocyte antigen-DRB1*16 (HLA-DRB1*16) allele (DRB1*1609) has been identified by sequencing-based typing (SBT) in Chinese Han population. This new allele has identical nucleotide sequence to DRB1*160101 in exon 2, except for a single-nucleotide substitution from A to T at position 127.
