Effective blood pressure lowering is essential for prevention of complications of arterial hypertension. Most current guidelines indicate diuretics, beta-blockers, angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors, calcium channel blockers and angiotensin receptor blockers as main antihypertensive drugs.
