Adult patients deficient in carnitine palmitoyltransferase II (CPT II) cannot generate sufficient amounts of energy, which results in rhabdomyolysis and acute renal failure (ARF). Its genetic basis has been recognized; but histopathologic changes, especially electron microscopic changes, have scarcely been described.
