Escherichia coli strains belonging to serogroups O 138 and O 139 isolated from pigs with edema disease, were characterized with respect to the presence of genes encoding Shiga-like toxin I, Shiga-like toxin II and Shiga-like toxin IIv (SLT I, SLT II and SLT IIv).
