Recurrence of hepatitis C after transplantation is expected. Unfortunately, the outcome is poor in some, with as many as 25% of patients developing decompensated cirrhosis. Thus, developing treatment strategies to eradicate infection or slow the progression of hepatic fibrosis is crucial.
