The structures of the cytoplasmic loops of the phototaxis receptor sensory rhodopsin II (SRII) and the membrane-proximal cytoplasmic domain of its bound transducer HtrII were examined in the dark and in the light-activated state by fluorescent probes and cysteine cross-linking.
