Marek's disease virus is a highly cell-associated, lymphotropic alpha-herpesvirus that causes paralysis and neoplastic disease in chickens. The disease has been contained by vaccination with attenuated viruses and provides the first evidence for a malignant cancer being controlled by an antiviral vaccine.
