Diaporthe helianthi is the causal agent of sunflower stem canker, a serious pathogen of sunflower in Europe but recorded sporadically in Italy. The genetic diversity of D. helianthi isolates from different geographic origins (Argentina, France, Italy, Yugoslavia, Romania) was investigated using IGS sequences.
