This study investigates the developmental bases of size and shape variation in papionin primates (Macaca, Cercocebus, Mandrillus, Lophocebus, and Papio). The analysis tests hypotheses predicting that heterochronic changes in ontogeny, particularly in the degree of overall size growth, can account for cranial diversity and "allometric scaling" in this clade.
