In Rhodobacter sphaeroides, mutations that suppress the photosynthetic deficiency (spd mutations) of strains lacking cytochrome c2 (cyt c2) cause accumulation of a periplasmic cyt c2 isoform that has been designated isocytochrome c2 (isocyt c2).
