Certain maternal/infant pairs, as well as other high-risk adults, develop a host-response HIV-1 infection characterized by circulating and tissue infiltrative CD8 T-cell lymphocytosis, termed Diffuse Infiltrative Lymphocytosis Syndrome (DILS).
