Clinical isolates of Enterobacteriaceae with reduced susceptibilities to cephalosporins were collected from 1993 to 2000. The organisms were screened for the extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) phenotype, and plasmid extracts were screened for genetic markers by hybridization.
