Glucose transporter 1 deficiency syndrome is emblematic of a brain energy failure syndrome. Energy failure also results from other genetically determined metabolic disorders, such as hypoglycemic syndromes, hypoketonemic syndromes associated with fatty acid oxidation defects, glycolytic enzymopathies, and mitochondrial defects.
