A premature infant in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) developed a bloodstream infection caused by coagulase-negative staphylococci (CoNS) sensitive to vancomycin. The infection persisted for 3 weeks, despite therapy with vancomycin and replacement of all intravenous catheters.
