Dissimilatory nitrate reductase (Nar) was solubilized and partially purified from the large particle (mitochondrial) fraction of the denitrifying fungus Fusarium oxysporum and characterized. Many lines of evidence showed that the membrane-bound Nar is distinct from the soluble, assimilatory nitrate reductase.
