To investigate the DNA mutation rate and pattern in the hypervariable short tandem repeat (STR) locus D12S391 and in the locus D8S1132, samples from an eastern German population (Dresden area) were analysed. A duplex PCR was applied, using short amplification products for D12S391 (129-177bp) and a modified reverse primer for D8S1132 (127-182bp).
