We demonstrate abnormal dopaminergic neurotransmission in anorexic mice, homozygous for a recessive mutation (anx) causing starvation and motor disturbances. Isolated neurons from anx/anx striatum displayed a markedly increased activity of the Na+,K+-ATPase compared with normal littermates.
