Several findings from the 1998 World AIDS Conference are presented regarding current HIV research. One finding is that early access to drugs for HIV infection is cost-effective, increases life span, and improves quality of life. Research is also being conducted at Massachusetts General Hospital to investigate whether a patient's immune system can ward off further infection if antiretroviral therapy is ceased....
