Hantaan (HTN) virus, the etiologic agent of clinically severe hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS), was first isolated in 1976 from lung tissues of striped field mice (Apodemus agrarius) captured in Songnae-ri, Kyungki-do, Korea.
