Genetic hemochromatosis is an autosomal recessive disease, characterized by an increased iron absorption, leading to progressive iron overload. The fully expressed phenotype comprises fatigue, skin pigmentation, liver disease with hepatomegaly, cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma, and diabetes.
