Cystic fibrosis (CF) mainly affects Caucasians of northwestern-European ancestry with severe morbidity. The individuals are malnourished and growth retarded. The latter is thought to be the consequence of delayed maturation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis due to malnourishment.
