Self-incompatibility, the rejection of self pollen, is the most widespread mechanism by which flowering plants prevent inbreeding. In Brassica, the S receptor kinase (SRK) has been implicated in the self-incompatibility response, but the molecular mechanisms involving SRK are unknown.
