The preliminary finding in Pêga donkeys contrasts a named mutation with gait scores, but the functional meaning of those scores remains the critical link. A score recorded during a structured assessment may characterize observed movement without showing how the animal moves across terrain, distances, or ordinary activity. Evidence on repeatability and association with mobility outside the scoring session would help define what the reported lack of influence means.
