The reported progression points to a more specific longitudinal sequence: rising oxidative stress, loss of daily remodeling in pacemaker neuron termini, disrupted circadian network communication, then altered sleep. Repeated measures within the same flies could test whether the neuronal rhythm change precedes persistent sleep deterioration rather than fluctuating with current ROS levels. The durable endpoint is later functional decline predicted by an early within-animal clock change.
