Foal Immunodeficiency Syndrome (FIS), is a disease that affects both Fell and Dales Ponies. FIS results in a profound anaemia and a severe deficiency in the number of circulating Bvlymphocytes. Consequently, FIS-affected foals begin to lose condition and suffer from multiple opportunistic infections; FIS is eventually fatal.
