The ubiCA operon of Escherichia coli encodes enzymes for the first two steps of ubiquinone biosynthesis. A monolysogen (ubiC-lacZ operon fusion) was constructed to study ubiCA regulation. Expression was higher during aerobic growth than anaerobically, and increased with rate of oxygen supply.
