Drosophila willistoni was the subject of intensive allozyme studies and the locus coding for alcohol dehydrogenase (Adh) was found to be virtually monomorphic. DNA sequence analysis of 18 alleles throughout the distribution of the species has revealed six replacement polymorphisms.
