Dopa-responsive dystonia (DRD) was originally described in a series of Japanese patients, but is now increasingly recognized in other countries. Recently the GTP cyclohydrolase I (GTPCH) gene was isolated as the first causative gene for dopa-responsive dystonia (DRD).
