Pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) of SmaI macrorestriction fragments of chromosomal DNA was used to confirm the persistence of methicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus isolates in the sputum of 25 cystic fibrosis patients in five French hospitals.
