To identify the structural defects of nonsporulating mutants of Streptomyces griseus, the wild-type strain and class III bald mutants were examined by using transmission electron microscopy, ultrasonic treatment, and fluorescence microscopy after the induction of submerged sporulation by phosphate starvation.
