Biphenyl(BP)-utilizing bacteria, which include both Gram-negative and Gram-positive strains, are ubiquitously distributed in the environment. These bacteria co-metabolically degrade a variety of polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) congeners to the corresponding chlorobenzoic acids through 2,3-dioxygenation.
