Vibrio cholerae O1 expresses a variety of cell surface factors which mediate bacterial adherence and colonization at the intestinal epithelium. The mannose-sensitive hemagglutinin (MSHA), a type IV pilus, is a potential attachment factor of the V. cholerae El Tor biotype.
