Genet. 225 (1991) 483-491] recently reported that an Atp2-lacZ fusion protein was transported into mitochondria in yeast, thus identifying the MFT1 (mitochondrial fusion targeting) gene as a genomic fragment which complements a mutation (mft1) that failed in targeting a fusion protein into mitochondria.
