A high-CO2-requiring mutant, G7, of Synechocystis sp. strain PCC6803 capable of inorganic carbon transport but unable to utilize the intracellular inorganic carbon pool for photosynthesis was isolated. Transmission electron micrographs of the mutant indicated that the mutant does not have any carboxysomes.
