Nitrate reductase (NR) is a key enzyme in nitrate assimilation, yet its function within nodules remains poorly understood. In Medicago truncatula, 3 NR genes, MtNR1, MtNR2, and MtNR3, exhibit distinct evolutionary origins and regulatory features.
