BACKGROUND: Pima cotton (Gossypium barbadense) producing superior quality fibers used for premium fabrics and a source of valuable genetic diversity to improve Upland cotton (G. hirsutum). However, current Pima cultivars lack premium quality traits and have a narrow genetic base.
