Indeed, we discovered that osteoclast precursors intracellularly infected with S. aureus undergo significantly increased osteoclast formation, even in the absence of TLR2 and TLR9. These results suggest that TLR2 and TLR9 have context-dependent roles in the alteration of bone homeostasis during osteomyelitis.
