OBJECTIVES: During targeted therapy, tumor heterogeneity can drive the evolution of multiple tumor subclones harboring unique resistance mechanisms. Sequential profiling of plasma cell-free DNA (cfDNA) provides a noninvasive method for early detection of patient progression.
