Euglenids are a diverse group of euglenozoan flagellates that includes phototrophs, osmotrophs, and phagotrophs. Despite making up most of the phylogenetic diversity of euglenids, phagotrophs remain understudied, and recent work has focused on 'deep-branching' groups.
