Indole-3-acetamide (IAM) is the first confirmed auxin biosynthetic intermediate in some plant pathogenic bacteria. Exogenously applied IAM or production of IAM by overexpressing the bacterial iaaM gene in Arabidopsis causes auxin overproduction phenotypes.
