BACKGROUND: Mutations in isocitrate dehydrogenase-2 (IDH2) occur in around 5% of patients with myelodysplastic syndromes. Neomorphic activity of mutant IDH2 proteins results in hypermethylation of DNA and histones, leading to blocked haemopoietic differentiation.
