Influenza A virus (IAV) infection induces mitophagy, which is essential for the clearance of damaged mitochondria. Dysfunctional mitochondria can be selectively targeted by PINK1, which recruits PRKN/PARK2 and leads to subsequent mitochondrial sequestration within autophagosomes.
