Lipoprotein lipase (LPL) deficiency, caused by mutations in the LPL gene, is a rare autosomal recessive disorder manifesting in early childhood with recurrent abdominal pain, hepatosplenomegaly, acute pancreatitis, lipaemia retinalis and eruptive xanthomas.
