Oomycetes from the genus Phytophthora are fungus-like plant pathogens that are devastating for agriculture and natural ecosystems. They are able to secrete a glucanase inhibitor protein (GIP) that inhibits the activity of endoglucanases (EGases) involved in defense responses against infection.
