The periplasmic maltose binding protein (MBP) is required for the high affinity transport of maltose and maltodextrins and for chemotaxis towards these sugars. In these functions, MBP interacts with proteins of the cytoplasmic membrane: MalF and MalG for transport, Tar for chemotaxis.
