PCR-SSCP and DNA sequencing methods were employed to screen the genetic variation of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) gene in 675 individuals belonging to three Chinese indigenous cattle breeds including Qinchuan (QC), Jiaxian Red (JX) and Nanyang (NY) breed.
