PURPOSE OF REVIEW: There are different phenotypes of asthma, with phenotype-specific differences in medication response observed. RECENT FINDINGS: Tobacco smoke exposure reduces corticosteroid responsiveness. Treatment for tobacco smoke-triggered asthma must start with treatment of tobacco dependence.
