Mutations at the DFNB1 locus which encode connexin 26 (CX26) and connexin 30 (CX30) proteins, respectively, are main cause for sporadic and familial non-syndromic hearing impairment (NSHI) in many populations. 342-kb deletion [del (GJB6-D13S1830)] of Cx30 gene is second most common connexin mutation.
