The pts operon of Escherichia coli is composed of the genes ptsH, ptsI, and crr, which code for three proteins of the phosphoenolpyruvate-dependent phosphotransferase system (PTS): the HPr, enzyme I (EI), and EIIIGlc proteins, respectively.
